Charities have an ever increasing role to play in the provision of services that were once the domain of central bodies or local authorities. In the field of care and support services charities are a vital part of our daily lives. As such they are being scrutinised more closely than ever. Harris Bassett have worked in the charity sector for many years providing not just accountancy and audit services but also specialist tax advice, internal audit, systems advice and much more.
For example Harris Bassett act for Hafal, a charity based in Swansea leading the way in the provision of support to people whose lives have been affected by serious mental illness. The charity is growing rapidly and in the last 12 months opened the doors to its ground breaking in-patient Recovery Centre at Gellinudd near Pontardawe. The Centre saw the conversion of the former geriatric hospital into what is now an award winning facility supported by Big Lottery and Welsh Government. Harris Bassett provided advice on VAT aspects of converting the hospital and Nick Bassett currently sits on their Professional Advisory Board.
Hafal has also combined with Mid Wales based charity Crossroads and again Harris Bassett assisted in undertaking due diligence work, subsequently reporting to the main board of trustees.
As with all clients Harris Bassett work closely with the senior executives of the charity and have regular contact with the trustees providing them with the confidence that financial matters, and those relating to governance, are being adequately and appropriately dealt with.
